Jakarta, October 29, 2025 – The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta once again organized a Seminar titled “Gender and Politics” on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. The event took place in the Auditorium Room of the Dr. Wahidin Sudiro Husodo Building (FK), 3rd Floor, at the UPN “Veteran” Jakarta campus, and was attended by enthusiastic students and lecturers.

The event was opened by the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FISIP, Dr. Azwar, SS., M.Si., who emphasized the importance of this seminar activity integrating with other stakeholders as part of a positive academic culture at the university. He added that direct meetings with book authors are now easier, especially with the support of Prenada Publisher, which published the book “Gender and Politics” in line with this morning’s seminar. This means the seminar can be conducted with multistakeholders and diverse perspectives. Azwar hopes that such activities can continue, providing a positive impact for students.
“Later, the students can directly dig into the information from the source at the seminar, including with the book authors, so unlike in our time, it was difficult to meet authors, let alone the publishers, but now it’s easy. Even in a seminar like this, it’s already possible.” said Azwar.

The seminar featured expert speakers, including Dr. Ambarwati, M.Si., from Jayabaya University, and Dr. Ana Sabhana Azmy, M.I.P., an internal lecturer at UPN “Veteran” Jakarta and the author of the book “Gender and Politics”. Both provided deep insights into how politics can drive social change in the context of gender, particularly for women.
Ambarwati highlighted the challenges faced by women after starting a family. “When women have families and children, they are returned to being housewives; Fraenkel says that’s the same as throwing away half of the valuable talent from women.” said Ambarwati.
Ana also provided context to help society understand the difference between sex and gender. “There is a different context in understanding sex or gender. Indeed, gender is related to social strata, identity, and character.” she explained when responding to students.
Competent lecturers in the field of Gender and Politics from UPN “Veteran” Jakarta also participated in presenting at the seminar, such as Fullah Jumaynah, S.Sos., M.I.P., from the Political Science Study Program, as well as Winda Eka Pahla Ayuningtyas, S.Pd., M.A., and Hartika Arbiyanti, S.S., M.Si., from the International Relations Study Program. The three provided interdisciplinary analysis, combining sociological, political science, and global gender studies perspectives.
The event, chaired by Dyah Ayu Kusuma Dewandaru, proceeded in a warm, light, and easily understandable atmosphere. It concluded with a question-and-answer session with students, followed by a summary of the seminar by the moderator, Lusi Puspasari. The event was also supported by several other lecturers, including Lailatus Sholihah, Nur Inayah Yushar, Bilqis Oktaviani Putri, Reja, Ahmad Prasetya Hady, and Hendika Dwinanda Wicaksana.
